If you’re a fan of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, you know that being alive is not something even the most important characters on the show take for granted, especially this far into the game. So, to celebrate their continued involvement in one of the most popular shows on the planet (and the fact that they haven’t been poisoned or decapitated yet), co-stars Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner visited a tattoo shop in Ireland last week to get matching tattoos inspired by Game of Thrones. Maisie and Sophie’s tattoos were done while the actresses, who play sisters Arya and Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, were enjoying some girl time together in Belfast, Ireland, on September 13.

Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner’s tattoos were inked by Belfast-based artist Kat Paine, but, up until this point, the actual tattoo design the girls opted for remained a bit of a mystery. We did have an inkling that the tattoo design included the date 07.08.09, as Maisie Williams posted an Instagram photo of herself and Sophie with that date in the caption, shortly after news hit that they had gotten inked. In photos posted on social media of Maisie and Sophie posing for pictures with fans on September 13, the younger Stark sister was sporting a bandage on her left arm, with black ink visible on her inner forearm, just below her elbow.

However, it wasn’t until Sophie Turner showed off her new tattoo on the red carpet at the Emmy’s this past Sunday, that we were sure of the design of the matching tats. Inked in white on the inside of her arm, Sophie Turner’s tattoo does, in fact, feature the date “07.08.09,” which, it turns, out, is the date the castings for Game of Thrones were announced and the girls found out they were going to be a part of the series. When asked what made them get the tattoos, Sophie joked about the trend of the GoT creators killing off the show’s main characters, saying, “We don’t know if we’re going to make it, so Maisie and I were like, ‘let’s get these ones before anyone kills us.’”
