If nothing else, Harry Styles’ taste in tattoos has become far more mature than it was just a few years ago (well, except for his impromptu “Late Late” arm tattoo), and the pop star has recently been covering up his older pieces with larger, more detailed and meaningful tattoos. While posing with fans during a trip to the Caribbean this week, Harry Styles was spotted with one such tattoo cover-up, an image of a majestic eagle on the inside of his right forearm, which covers up the “Things I can” tat the singer got in Dublin, Ireland in October 2012.

At the time Harry Styles revealed his “Things I can” and matching “Things I can’t” arm tattoos, we believed that the ink was probably a reminder of the well-known serenity prayer that reads, “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” By covering up his “Things I can” tattoo with an image of an eagle, which typically represents freedom, strength, liberty or independence, Harry could be hinting at making some changes in the new year, possibly even embarking on a solo career.

According to reports, Harry has registered four new solo tracks with ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, a move that has some die-hard One Direction fans concerned that the 21-year-old may be getting ready to split from his bandmates and follow in the footsteps of former 1D member Zayn Malik. The four new tracks, “Already Home,” “Coco,” “Endlessly,” and “5378 Miles” were all written with Snow Patrol guitarist John McDaid and songwriter/producer Gary Go, but Harry Styles was listed as the only performer on the tracks.

Harry’s “Things I can” tattoo isn’t the only ink the singer has covered up recently. In January 2014, Harry Styles got a new Bible tattoo in the same spot on the inside of his left forearm, covering up the “Things I can’t” tattoo that corresponded with his recently covered-up “Things I can” tat. Around that same time, Harry also covered up the “I can’t change” tattoo that was inked on his left wrist with an image of an anchor. It appears that Harry Styles may be over his random quote tattoos and is instead moving on to more meaningful, in-your-face pieces like his new eagle ink!
