If there’s anything sweeter than a boy paying a special tribute to his father, then we haven’t seen it, and when that boy happens to be international pop superstar Zayn Malik, that just makes it all the better. After being out of the limelight for a little while, Zayn took to Instagram on Thursday, December 14, to post a photo of some fresh ink on his neck featuring his father’s name, “Yaser.” The sentimental yet simple piece is done in a scrolling black script that extends vertically down his neck, behind his right ear. The singer accompanied the photo of the fresh tat with a sweet message, writing simply, “Love you.”
Zayn Malik has always been open about his close relationship with his family, and he has said in the past that he has often felt “grounded” by his parents, who help him maintain a sense of normalcy in his whirlwind life. In an excerpt from his 2016 autobiography published by Rolling Stone, Zayn reveals that his British-Pakistani father was the inspiration behind “Intermission: Flower,” which was sung in Urdu, the official language of Pakistan. “My dad’s a hard worker and he has strong values,” Zayn writes. “He was a personal trainer and is solidly built, and he used to go on at me all the time about being a good student and getting the right education. He wanted the best for me, and I wanted to please him in return…I wanted to show him, as much as everyone else, that I could do it.”
Despite the fact that Zayn Malik is an internationally-recognized celebrity, he’s still loves his parents and is really just a mama’s boy at heart. Back in September, he told Us Weekly that he has a “great relationship” with his mother, Trisha, saying, “She’s just a part of everything and she’s really cool, man. I love my mum.” Though he has yet to get a permanent tattoo tribute to Trisha, Zayn did give us all a bit of a scare last year, when he showed off a massive tattoo on the side of his face reading “M.O.M.” Thankfully, that tat ended up being a temporary job, but this new “Yaser” ink is definitely here to stay.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, some of the lyrics from Zayn’s song “Flower” translate to, “Until the flower of this love has blossomed / This heart won’t be at peace / Give me your heart…”
A special thanks to PST fan Aimee Reider for help in discovering these tattoos!
