In the days after Zayn Malik announced that he would be leaving One Direction, devastated fans of the heartthrob probably cried, screamed and clawed their eyes out – among other things we can’t even begin to imagine – in a grand demonstration of their sorrow. But, while we too are sad to see Zayn go (who will be the group’s resident bad boy now?) we have to admit that we are actually far more concerned about one other thing – the huge chevron tattoo Liam Payne had inked on his arm as a tribute to his fellow One Directioners, Harry, Niall, Louis…and Zayn. That, and the fact that Zayn’s departure coincides with rumors that the singer may have been cheating on fiancé, Perrie Edwards.
The official announcement detailing Zayn Malik’s departure from One Direction was posted on the band’s Facebook page today (March 25, 2015), and the lengthy explanation cites the singer’s desire for “privacy and relaxation” as the driving force behind his decision to leave the band after five good years. As Zayn himself said, “My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I’d like to apologize to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart.”
For those of you hoping beyond hope that Zayn is leaving 1D to pursue a solo career as that hunky Brit with the sometimes skunky hair, we hate to burst your bubble, but that does not appear to be in the cards for Zayn, at least not right now. “I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight,” Zayn was quoted in the Facebook post. And not one to hang his buddies out to dry, he continued: “I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world.”
Even Simon Cowell, who signed One Direction to his record label after they finished third on the British X Factor in 2010, admitted that he was sad to hear of Zayn’s decision to leave the band. He did make sure to bolster up the other members of the band though, saying, “As for One Direction, fans can rest assured that Niall, Liam, Harry and Louis are hugely excited about the future of the band.” The only problem is, Liam Payne’s chevron tattoo that he got in November 2012, was rumored to have been inked with four arrows representing his four bandmates, of which he now only has three. In fact, the month before he got the chevron tattoo, Liam said during an interview, “All I ever need is my family and these four boys right here.”
No worries though; now that One Direction has suddenly become a foursome, Liam can just pretend that his chevron tattoo has four arrows for the four members of the band, including himself. Now that that’s cleared up, let’s hear it folks; what do you all think of Zayn’s decision to leave One Direction? Do you think the boy band is on its way out now, or will the other boys do just fine without him? Tell us what you think in the comments section below!
