Guess Which Backstreet Boy Rocks a Secret Tattoo Dedicated to “Friends” Show?

Okay so, A.J. McLean may have become a little more rough around the edges since his boy band days (he is literally covered in tattoos and rocks a handlebar mustache, painted fingernails and occasionally black eyeliner), but the former Backstreet Boys singer is, at the same time, a huge fan of “Friends”– so much so that he recently got a tattoo inspired by the beloved 90’s sitcom. Come on, who doesn’t love “Friends”? Sure it’s been off the air for ten years, but what does that matter to A.J., who is now the proud owner of a discreet tattoo on the side of his hand featuring the six colored dots that appear between the letters in the “Friends” logo. Betcha no one saw THAT one coming.

During a recent interview with In Touch Weekly, A.J. McLean admitted that he considers himself a “Friends” superfan. “I actually have a tattoo that represents the show,” he revealed, showing off some fresh ink on the outside of his right hand. The tattoo, which A.J. had done in January 2014, features six large dots – red, yellow, blue, red, yellow, blue – just like the dots that appear between the F-R-I-E-N-D-S letters in the sitcom’s logo. Even better than the fact that A.J. McLean is a die-hard “Friends” fan is the fact that he didn’t even start watching the show until just recently. “Until two years ago, I had never seen an episode in my life,” he revealed in the In Touch interview. “Now I can quote the show word for word. It’s great!”

It’s easy to make fun of a grown man with a colorful “Friends” tattoo, especially when he shows it off in a pic while wearing a huge white skull ring and painted fingernails, but we actually think it’s kind of awesome that A.J. one, got the goofy tattoo, and two, felt comfortable enough to show it to the world. aj-mclean-friends-tattooEspecially since he fought such a public battle with substance abuse in 2011 and has only recently settled into a happy life with his wife and one-year-old daughter. It’s sort of disarmingly cute that, 20 years after “Friends” first aired, the 36-year-old former boy-bander finds himself a die-hard fan who can quote word for word good old Joey Tribbiani and Chandler Bing. At least he isn’t desperate enough to become a spokesperson for Bosley Hair Restoration like NSYNC’s Joey Fatone.
