Demi Lovato Talks Rehab, Happiness & Tattoos in Magazine Interview
By | On August 6, 2012

Make sure you pick up the August issue of Self magazine, because not only is Demi Lovato looking fabulous as ever on the cover, but she also delivers one of the most candid interviews regarding her difficulties in the past with addiction and self-harming. The 19-year-old superstar dishes on how she treats herself these days, how she prefers to exercise, and get this – who she shares her “stay strong” tattoo with! Read on to learn more about Demi Lovato’s tattoos, her recent work, and her inspirational take on being happy.

It’s doubtful that, at this time last year, Demi Lovato would have ever imagined herself as a candidate for a cover shot of Self magazine. Between her addictions and physical and emotional difficulties, Demi probably never pictured herself becoming a role model for women and young girls the world over. Take a look at the August issue though, and you’ll see a healthy and happy Demi proudly posing in a sexy, curve-hugging yellow dress – tattoos and all. Just last month, the young singer graced the cover of Cosmopolitan, she has quickly become a favorite judge on The X Factor, and she was also chosen to host the Teen Choice Awards with Joel McHale. Whatever Demi Lovato is doing these days, it’s working. She is back in the limelight and ready to bare it all (figuratively, of course)!

Self Photo Shoot Shows a Fit and Fabulous Demi

In a new interview and photo shoot done by Self magazine, Demi Lovato shows off her taut abs, toned body and inspirational tattoos, discussing how she has stayed healthy post-rehab and what she did to get through one of the toughest times in her life. “I work out five or six days a week for my peace of mind, not to lose weight,” Demi dishes. “I switch it up, I’ll run a few miles or bike from Santa Monica to Mariuna del Ray. I also love boxing or, when I’m sore, yoga.” Although working out brings Demi peace of mind, the teen star realizes that she needs to be happy with herself, first and foremost. She tells the magazine, “I’m treating myself with love and doing good things for my mind and soul.”

With her new role as a judge on The X Factor, Demi finds herself in the position to help unknown talent get their big break, even though it’s not always as easy as it seems. Demi recently lashed out at two contestants who performed a rap based on doing drugs, particularly the designer drug now being sold as bath salts, calling the duo “irresponsible” and asking them to leave the stage. Demi has always been candid about her struggles with drugs and addiction in the past, and even got tattoos inked on her body as a reminder of the obstacles she has overcome in her life.

Demi Lovato’s Tattoo Matches Her Mom’s!

Demi Lovato Stay Strong Tattoo“There were times I felt so anxious, almost like I was crawling out of my skin – that if I didn’t do something physical to match the way I felt inside, I would explode,” the 19-year-old revealed in the Self magazine interview. “I cut myself to take my mind off that. I just didn’t care what happened. I had no fear.” Ask Demi today about her many tattoos though, and she will tell you a little bit about fear. “Just remember one thing,” she warned the audience at the Teen Choice Awards last month. “They hurt.” Demi’s most famous tat, the “stay strong” tattoo she has on her wrists, was inked in March 2011, shortly after she finished treatment in rehab. And here’s a little-known tidbit, Demi’s mom has the same tattoo! She got “stay strong” inked across her wrists and surprised her daughter while she was in rehab. Now that’s what we call support!
