Former Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson made a statement last year when she chopped off her signature blonde locks in favor of a shorter pixie cut, and now she is embracing another big change in her life by undergoing laser tattoo removal to get rid of the barbed wire arm tattoo she has been rocking for nearly two decades. The mother of two is obviously trying to revamp her image as she gets older, and in a photo of Pamela wearing a revealing white dress at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas over the weekend, walking arm in arm with her 16-year-old son Dylan, you can see that her infamous barbed wire tattoo is nearly invisible.

Pamela famously got her old-school barbed wire tattoo back in 1995, just before filming began for Barb Wire, the actress’ first cinematic lead role in which she played a pretty bad-ass leather-wearing bounty hunter, and the tat featured a ring of black barbed wire that encircled her left bicep. According to the 46-year-old, she loved then-husband Tommy Lee’s tattoos, and instead of a make-up artist painting the barbed wire tat on Pamela’s arm each day, she decided to go under the needle for the real deal. “I decided I’d just go ahead and get it done,” Pamela said shortly after getting the bicep tattoo. “I love it. I think it’s very feminine, for barbed wire.”

Apparently the ink that Pamela once loved is no longer an important part of her life anymore, because the barbed wire bicep tattoo is in the process of being removed, nearly 20 years after it was originally inked. Wondering why she’s finally decided to undergo laser removal? According to a friend, “Pamela is seeing the effects of age and hard living on her body. Her skin is getting soft. She feels like her tattoos are going to become eyesores.” And while Pamela insists that she didn’t choose to undergo tattoo removal to prove she’s a “good mother” to her children, we can’t imagine her kids are sad to see the 90’s-style barbed wire tattoo go.

Pamela Anderson is no stranger to changing up her tats when they no longer hold an important meaning for her, and she’s definitely not the type of person to hang on to tattoos because they remind her of her “journey” in life. Soon after divorcing husband Tommy Lee in 1998, for example, the proud mama had the “Tommy”tattoo on her ring finger changed to read “Mommy” instead. Pamela also has a floral tattoo on her spine, but there’s no word yet if she’s planning on giving that tattoo the ax as well. Stay tuned to find out!
