Demi Lovato has had quite the busy week! After attending the TIME 100 Gala in New York on April 25, the pop star met up with one of her favorite tattoo artists, Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy, for a late-night tattoo session, getting a massive lion face tattooed on her hand. Demi documented the tattoo session on Snapchat and her Instagram stories, and in the posts, you can see the fresh lion tat, inked in a light gray color on the back of her right hand. It’s been a while since Demi Lovato has shown off a new tattoo – Bang Bang gave her a tattoo of two roses on her forearm and added to her “you make me beautiful” ribcage tat last September – but this new lion piece was totally worth the wait!
Demi attended the TIME 100 Gala as an honored guest, recognized as one of TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People for her mental health advocacy. The singer has always been open about her past struggles with bulimia, bipolar disorder and self-mutilation – which landed her in a rehab clinic at the age of 18 – and the pop star is determined to raise awareness about the stigma surrounding tough issues like mental health, body image, addiction and eating disorders. “Demi Lovato is a remarkably talented artist and performer. But her courage, honesty and willingness to use her own experiences to help others are what make her a true star,” Demi’s TIME 100 feature reads. “She has also been a public role model, unashamedly chronicling her struggles with substance abuse (she is now five years sober) and eating disorders. And having been bullied as a child, Demi has taken up the cause to protect other children.”
It was after wowing the TIME 100 Gala crowd in her gorgeous royal blue Zuhair Murad ball gown and long flowing locks, that Demi slipped into a pair of comfy leggings, traded out her extensions for her natural short ‘do, and hit up Bang Bang’s tattoo shop to celebrate her 100 Most Influential People honor. She had Bang Bang give her a beautiful tattoo of a lion’s face on the back of her right hand, a larger version of the tiny lion tat he famously inked on Cara Delevingne’s finger in 2013. The new lion piece takes up the majority of Demi’s hand, and is inked right next to the small cross tat she had done back in 2011. What do you all think of Demi Lovato’s new lion tattoo??
